Lacca Povera

An Italian term, meaning "poor man's lacquer," that describes a form of decoupage, in which sheets of engravings were coloured, cut, and pasted onto the prepared surface of a piece of furniture, then varnished to produce a high-gloss finish. The technique originated in Venice in the 1750s.
