Early Georgian
The name given to furniture design and styles of ornament developed in England from 1702, when Queen Anne came to the throne, until about 1750 in the reign of George II.
Early Georgian furniture is distinguished by its use of curvilinear line and contour, particularly as exemplified by the cabriole leg. Ornament, especially wood carving, was a distinguishing feature. At first mostly walnut was used, but toward the end of the period mahogany replaced it.
