Crotch Wood

Timber that comes from the fork (crotch) of a tree. When sawn 'through and through' the timber can have the most beautiful grain. However, because of the wildness of the grain it is not always stable in the solid and is most often used as veneer.

Flame mahogany, which is used for decorative panels and table tops, is a type of crotch wood.
