Art Deco
A shortened form of the name of a Paris exposition held in Paris in 1925: Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes.
The exposition celebrated the marriage of art and industry in denunciation of Art Nouveau. It introduced simple, streamlined forms that were interpreted in exotic woods and materials. It had a strong geometric style, with simple forms, a move away from the patterned, floral art nouveau style, and its arcs, sleek lines, and geometric shapes were seen not only in furniture, but also in architecture and a wide range of household objects.
